Can you imagine? Suing the state because it is limiting donations by person/company in order to try and close up the “I-give-you-money-you-give-me-job” way of doing business here in NJ.

I especially like this quote:

“Furthermore, Oury says, it will only make it harder for the “little guy” to launch a career in politics — with the help of a well-oiled county organization, of course. Only millionaires, such as Governor Corzine or Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Forrester, will be able to afford the costly advertising and consultants.

Oury, a municipal lawyer himself and a generous dispenser of campaign donations in his own right, says voters can simply boot council members out of office if they are unhappy with their choice of lawyer or other professionals.

“The politician should get up and say, ‘If you don’t like it, don’t vote for me,’ ” he said. “Let the voters decide the issue, because, at the end of the day, this is what this is all about. … That’s the litmus test.”

Yes, that is right “Joe Average” can no longer run a fair race when the BCDO can spend tens of thousands of dollars to print lies of literature and to mail them.  So Mr. Oury wants to sue to make sure that grass roots campaigns, both party and independents can NEVER get a foothold in NJ. Gotta keep those checks coming into the BCDO without interference. Mr. Oury is also very concerned about his own cash flow as he is the “king” of Municipal jobs.

Yeah,  the “average guy” does care about “pay-to-play” as they have become more educated about it and how it affects their pocket book day-to-day. And as they learn more and more they become outraged.  Look at HH! A Borough attorney who does next to nothing for the Council except make sure that his other BCDO attorney friends and contributors  get jobs here in town. A BCDO  big time  engineer that was put on the job only to find out how little they would be able to make on the current projects and gave the work back to the former Borough Engineer who is doing it on budget and on time.

And he is right.  The voting booth is the litmus test. The BCDO is scared of it now due to the education that the voters are now receiving.  The voters are learning all about the “hidden” donations that don’t show up on official paperwork until after elections or the PACS that receive that money in bulk and then distribute it accordingly. They are learning about the manipulation of “no-bid” work by the Dems to bring in their contributors.

Yes, we are all learning and using this new education to make sure that our town is run for the citizens that live here and not the Bergen County Democrats and their local lapdogs that need to listen to their chairman and what HE wants for HH.

So go ahead, Oury. Sue the state. Let’s let the citizens of Bergen County and HH see how their lives have been a bank account for the the BCDO these last few years. Hey, education is a good thing, right?

    Dear HHangel,
Very good comment. Oury thinks he can do no wrong. Most people are sick and tired of the bergen county dems.

    Thanks for posting the comment.

The writer is correct when it states that vast amounts of money are spent on campaigns based on lies. Point in fact, some of homes in last year’s literature professing to have suffered huge property tax increases actually had extensive amounts of work done to them. Joe average voter would not know that. Sad, using editorials from The Record on the judicial appointment when not one of the GANG OF FOUR did anything. Very convenient to put out shades of the truth to win elections — but that is the BCDO way.

I guess the tyrannical Chairman is afraid that, if pay-to-play cannot be allowed to flow freely, his coffers will be depleted and he might actually have to run clean elections with candidates who represent the national Democratic mantra and not the PUPPETMASTER’S style of democratic values.

Hasbrouck Heights, very unfortunately, has the GANG OF FOUR doing just what increases everyone’s taxes — appointing positions in return for donations. However, many of these donations were quite cleverly funneled through PACs — something our state legislature must address and end. January 1 was laughable when they botched and appointed our prior accountant. It was not a power shift; it was the Chairman’s marching orders. No matter how they try to justify it — it is what it is.

Remember this type of patronage politics appears to be especially prevalent at the County level of government — you will understand more clearly when you see how much your County taxes increase this year.

Ask those Ferriero Democratic puppets on the council, some of whom have already gotten jobs for marching in line to the tyrant’s tune. That may have been a very strong motivation for others to follow suit.

As Angel has said, FOLLOW THE MONEY, and clear answers will be provided. PAY-TO-PLAY does affect every taxpayers’ pocketbook at ALL levels of government.

There was a huge property tax increase after the 10 yr. re-val. It was the property (land) that had the greatest increase because of all the homes that were demolished and 1 lot became 2 lots. My property (land assessed value ) went from $94,000.00 in 2005 to $270,200.00 in 2006. That was just the land value, not my house or any improvements. The mayor, council and the zoning-planing board knew that making more lots made more rateables and would increase the land value of every lot in Hasbrouck Heights. What they didn’t consider was how much more money would be needed to educate and provide services to these newly created rateables and the increase on all of us, or maybe they did .
