Bus Stop Campaigning

October 31, 2007 · 2 Comments

Someone told me in the last couple of days that the Saccomano Group has been instructed by the Bergen County Dems to campaign at Bus Stops.  That would make sense as I saw them at 8:30 this a.m. on the Blvd. the three of them!

Gee, can you imagine? When I used to commute by bus, waiting half-asleep at the stop, thinking about my schedule for the coming day, wishing I was back in bed, the LAST THING I WOULD EVER WANT TO SEE IS A DESPERATE POLITICIAN! And to make it worse? You can’t escape!!!

And this is why school uniforms are a wonderful thing

I was one of those kids in middle school that couldn’t even think of being with the “cool” kids. I learned how to make “something from nothing” for dinner to feed my younger siblings while my mother worked the late shift.  I owned 2 pairs of Sears jeans and I had to wash them out every other day so I could at least have jeans to wear. I had K-Mart sneakers. Keds? Too much money.  And then when they got holes in the bottoms I waited as long as I could to tell my mom as I knew there was sometimes no money to replace them. Cool clothes? Please. I remember learning to sew just so I could make some tops to go with the jeans and fix tears in seams.

My kids wear uniforms. I love it. It levels the playing field to some degree. Could my husband and I afford the “so-called” designer clothes now? Yeah, we can.  We have a nice home, nice cars. The kids do activities that cost $$ along with their education. Do I buy my daughter and son “designer” clothes for their off times? No. If they would like to use birthday money and such to do it, they do.  But they don’t.  We walk into the mall with a $50 gift card and my 6th grader realizes that she can only afford one shirt with that money. She doesn’t like that. She is lucky though as she is smaller than her friends and when they grow out of the Hollister shirts in 2 months, my daughter ends up with them. My son? He is into comfort.  He has to wear a shirt and tie to school so when he comes home, sweats are it for him.

Your children will emulate the values you set for them.  If you put the importance on how you look to the outside world and not work on being happy with what is on the inside and what is truly valuable to function as a member of society (compassion, generosity, faith), you will end up with another generation strung out on anti-anxiety medication.

Diverting from the issues…

October 17, 2007 · 1 Comment

So the Republicans were “challenged” by Carol Skiba about the use of the Council Chambers for a public information sessions.  She said “ethics”. Incorrect. I think we need to review the definition of “ethics”.

 ethics

The branch of philosophy that deals with morality. Ethics is concerned with distinguishing between good and evil in the world, between right and wrong human actions, and between virtuous and non-virtuous characteristics of people.

Using a public room for a public meeting, is NOT an ethics issue. It has nothing to do with “Right vs. Wrong”.  It has nothing to do with “good vs. evil” The bottom line? It has to do with “sour grapes” and not thinking ahead and  inquiring about reserving a space for their campaign.

Up to now, reserving a public space at the Municipal Complex for private and public meetings has been a nice priviledge for all citizens of Hasbrouck Heights. I remember when the building was just being finished getting an “inside tour” and how proud the tour guide was in discussing how this building can now be used by the community for all of the meetings that were scattered across the town in cramped spaces.

The use of the word “ethics”  has become a hot button issue in NJ Politics and she thought the use of this word would “incite” the people of Hasbrouck Heights. What this has done is to put some of the hardest workers in our Municipal Government in a position that they don’t deserve to be in.

Below is a letter that was sent to me that was  submitted to The Observer for publication this week:

To: The Observer NewspaperFrom: The Hasbrouck Heights Republican Club President Pamela J. Link

As President of the Hasbrouck Heights Republican Club I submitted an application to the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights for the use of a room in which to hold three meetings. One Citizens Forum on Sunday, Nov. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. and two meetings on Nov. 5, one a Senior Citizens Forum from 2 to 4 p.m. and the other a Citizens Forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Announcements began at our Annual Picnic at Woodland Park, Sept. 8th. Speakers were to be the Republican Mayoral Candidate Rose Heck and Council Candidates Sonya Buckman and David Gonzalez. The club was originally assigned to the Senior Center. Subsequent to that The Leisure Club wanted it changed and so the Council Chamber was assigned. This meant no extra setting up of chairs or changes in the room. This was to be the site of the first announced Mayoral Debate for Oct. 24th, which never was confirmed because only Rose Heck agreed to participate.

It was then that Councilwoman Carol Skiba began in our opinion to become concerned about the sponsor, all of which she had known for months. She sent press releases to several newspapers with her version of what should be done and how it should be done. She got some press, so did everyone else.

Now after a month plus, she comes to a Council Meeting and announces she has a couple of communications that had just been received. The Mayor allowed them to be read along with six other letters already on the Council Agenda for October 9th. Surprise! She, herself, wrote both letters dated Oct. 9th; One announcing the Fire Department Open House and the other charging Mayoral Candidate Rose Heck with being unethical. Why? Because Ms. Skiba said, she was going to use the Council Chamber.

Councilwoman Skiba should be ashamed of herself. In my opinion she was not forthright in bringing the communication forward. She was completely out of line in charging Mrs. Heck since it was not Mrs. Heck who applied to use the room, but myself as President of the Republican Club of Hasbrouck Heights. And Mrs. Heck was not the only person scheduled to speak at the three forums. Council Candidates Sonya Buckman and David Gonzalez were also participants. Why did Ms. Skiba single out Rose Heck? Why would she object to public forums in a public building? Why didn’t she ask to see the application to check the name on that request?

It has since come to my attention that our valued Borough Employees are coming under attack because of these scheduled Public Forums, so I am hereby removing my request to use the Municipal Building.

We will hold our Forums on the same dates and same times in a facility that no one should have any objection to its use. It will be held at 202 Boulevard. The space we rented for our Campaign Headquarters. The Democrats can now move on to try to create more havoc somewhere else.

S/s Pamela J. Link, President

The Hasbrouck Heights Republican Club

So what did she accomplish? Nothing.  Same meetings, different location. 202 Blvd.  See you there.

Look who ended up on the list?

October 11, 2007 · 3 Comments

Look at the bottom of the article and see whose company was pulled out as an example of “I-pay-you, you-pay-me.”

We have known this all along that Hasbrouck Heights is now a part of the Bergen County Democratic machine of handing out jobs for contributions, but it is quite interesting to see it “in print”.

Good job, Dems! Another “black eye” for our town.  But then again, you were just following “instructions” by your County Leader, Joe Ferriero, right?

Screw the residents and what is best for them. It’s all about feeding the Democrat gravy train.

“Dem Transparency?” Yeah, my a**…

October 7, 2007 · 1 Comment

I received this letter the other day reminding all the candidates of the forms that need to be filed with the ELEC in regards to contributions and the dates everything needs to be in to the ELEC.

elec-letter.pdf

So far the Dems have filed NOTHING for the General Election. Maybe they forgot? Nah, don’t think so. Maybe they are hiding their contributions from the citizens of HH? Yeah, that’s more like it.

Here look it up.

http://www.elec.state.nj.us/publicinformation.htm

Go to “View Candidate Report” and type in “Saccomano”, “Introna” or “Shihanian”.  Look at General 2007 and see what comes up.

They have the dates in front of them and they have no excuses. So let’s see if Juan Hernandez, their Treasurer and Willy Ortiz get them filed. They also need to be filled with Rose Sees in the Municipal office at the same time.

Or will they continue to deceive the voters of HH and delay and delay and delay filing paperwork so that they can hide their finances from us all until after the election? That’s a very typical Democratic tactic in both Bergen and Hudson County.

We are watching…

Central Ave. Bond

This was passed on August 8, 2006.   So instead of having a situation like Depken Field, which cost the taxpayers $0, we have a parking lot that we all get to pay for. Thanks, Dems. Yep. I can see how you are all looking out for us.  I am sure we all appreciate the extra sweaters we will need to put on this winter as we try and keep our PSE&G bill down to help pay our taxes.

Keeping that Dem money rolling in…

October 2, 2007 · 4 Comments

Hudson, Bergen doesn’t matter to Willy.  Dem money is Dem Money. I guess this is why he doesn’t have time to followup on projects for Hasbrouck Heights. Too busy hustling for another political appointment for himself.  Isn’t it nice that the HH Dems on the Council (Maryetta and Lenny included) are helping us all to finance his lifestyle.
